Beaches

The costal strip of Valle Gran Rey offers a series of black sandy beaches for bathing, the largest of which are La Calera y La Puntilla.

The sea beds off the coasts are uniquely spectacular for diving.  El Charco del Conde, declared a site of scientific interest, forms a small bay, ideal for children to make their first contact with the sea.  Next to this pool is El Charco de La Condesa, a reef that has always been a popular spot for swimming and surfing.  Both these spots are associated with the history of the people of La Gomera, in fact their names come from the fact that they were used by the Counts of La Gomera.

The port of Valle Gran Rey, in the district of Vueltas and built in the late seventies, is currently being extended in order to meet the growing demand for communications, fishing and sports.  The Vueltas beach, another of the major beaches of the municipality, is right next to the port.

Further away from the town of Valley Gran Rey, you will find Playa del Ingles, a black sandy beach for nudists.  As it is further away from the town, it is also ideal for star gazing.
